ABB Launches Innovative Mobile Robot with AI-Powered Visual SLAM Technology and AMR Studio® Suite
ABB has introduced the Flexley Tug T702, its first autonomous mobile robot (AMR) equipped with AI-based Visual SLAM navigation technology and the new AMR Studio software suite. This cutting-edge technology enhances the speed, precision, and autonomy of robot navigation and logistics processes. The simplified setup process enables new users to easily deploy and manage entire fleets of mobile robots, reducing commissioning time by up to 20%.
Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics, said, "Following our acquisition of Swiss startup Sevensense in January, we are thrilled to launch our first AMR featuring AI-driven Visual SLAM technology and the AMR Studio software. This combination provides unparalleled flexibility and scalability for internal logistics, especially as industries shift from linear production lines to dynamic manufacturing networks."
The T702 robot is particularly well-suited for automotive, consumer goods, and logistics sectors, where large warehouses and fulfillment centers experience constantly changing environments. Key Features of Visual SLAM and AMR Studio Visual SLAM technology leverages AI and 3D vision to enable robots to make intelligent decisions, distinguishing between fixed and moving objects in dynamic environments. Using simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), the robots autonomously create and update maps, ensuring continuous operation while drastically reducing commissioning time from weeks to days. These maps can be shared across fleets, offering immediate scalability without operational disruption, making the system more flexible compared to other navigation technologies. AMR Studio software further enhances the capabilities of Visual SLAM by allowing users without programming expertise to easily create and configure AMR routes and tasks. It guides users through the entire process, from environment mapping to task generation and system configuration, streamlining the setup of complete AMR fleets from scratch.
Once deployed, the AMR Studio Fleet Manager software gives users full control of operations on the factory floor, utilizing intelligent order allocation algorithms to ensure efficient task distribution. It also offers real-time visualization and data monitoring for comprehensive traceability.
Market Outlook and Exhibition
With the acquisition of Sevensense, ABB continues to expand its mobile robotics portfolio to meet growing market demand. The global mobile robot market is projected to grow from $5.5 billion to $9.5 billion by 2026, representing a compound annual growth rate of 20%.
ABB will showcase the T702 robot with Visual SLAM and AMR Studio at the LogiMAT exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany, from March 19 to 21. For more information and to apply for free tickets, please visit the ABB LogiMAT exhibition website.
